Q: What exactly is a cooperative nursery school?
A: Cooperative schools have close parental involvement and believe that children feel best about themselves when they know that home and school are working together. Involvement on behalf of the parents allows PCNS to provide such a wonderful pre-school experience at a lower cost. PCNS families are expected to fulfill the following requirements:
1. Parental participation in the classroom on a rotating basis. Participation may include grandparents or other caregivers if necessary. For the first time ever, in our 2012-13 school year we are offering partial participation for a small additional fee.
2. Serve on a committee (which is assigned to families at the beginning of each school year).
3. Attend one workshop to assist with light maintenance, cleaning, and repairs.
4. Raise a minimum of $150.00 through the many fundraisers held during the school year OR
spend $100 upfront in lieu of fundraising.
Q: How is admission determined?
A: Registration is held in January of each year for the following school year. A point system corresponding to each entitlement will be used to aid in determining enrollment and class placement, which is as follows:
Active Church Member of the Packanack Community Church (10 points)
PCNS Student Currently Enrolled (5 points)
Previous or Current Board Member of 2 or more years (2 points)
Sibling of Current or Previously Enrolled Student (2 points)
Current Board Member 1 year only (1 1/2 point)
Previous Board Member 1 year only (1 point)
Child of PCNS Alumni (1/2 point)
Placement for new enrollees with 0 points is determined by a lottery. Families will be placed on a waiting list if they do not gain admission into their class of choice.
