 Our Philosophy, Curriculum, and Objectives
As a cooperative nursery school we have close parental involvement.  Our philosophy is that children feel best about themselves when they know that school and home are working together to give them educational and creative experiences.

Our school emphasizes socialization.  We strive to help children’s physical and mental growth and provide opportunities for developing good social habits like sharing, working together and respecting others.  The children are presented with opportunities for both quiet and active play.

The children’s senses are stimulated through clay, paint, collage, cutting, finger paints, and crayons.  The experience and enjoyment that the child gets from doing the projects is more important than the finished product.

We teach our children to share, operate in a group, follow simple directions and illustrate some independence and responsibility.  Small motor coordination is targeted with the use of the sand table, blocks, trucks, puzzles, clay, and manipulative table games.  To develop large motor coordination we have large stairs, ladders, rocking toys, and other indoor toys.  Outside, various playground equipment and tricycles give the children additional opportunities for development.  Physical well being includes proper nourishment and good nutrition is stressed as a learning unit, during daily snack and through food preparation.  Ample time for language experience is given during free play, circle time, story time, show and tell, and other ways throughout the year.  Classes also have exposure to age-appropriate computer games.  Each classroom also has a library of books for the children to enjoy.

Enrichment activities include parents and other community helpers speaking in the classroom about their professions.  Visitors have included nurses, dentists, police officers, firefighters, and doctors.  Families are encouraged to share their ethnic customs as well.  Our older classes take field trips to places in our community such as a local firehouse, the library, and a pumpkin farm.
