Packanack Cooperative Nursery School
Packanack Cooperative Nursery School is a parent cooperative preschool. We offer a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum with many opportunities for exploration and discovery.
Our co-op experience encourages children to be curious, to ask questions, and to actively engage with materials, ideas and people. We pride ourselves in providing a bright, nurturing and secure environment which enables each child to enhance their self confidence, independence, respect for others and love of learning. Our staff and parents accomplish this through play, structured activities, and positive interactions with peers and adults. Our cooperative structure supports the family as a whole, allowing parents to play an integral role in their child's early education. |
FAQs: Participation
You are involved from the first step of your child's education
with classroom participation on a rotating schedule. In your child's eyes, it's their "special day" because their parent is in class! My child keeps asking "When is it MY Special Day?" There will also be school events throughout the year where you will be able to come in, visit and help with special events and activities. The school is truly run by our amazing staff and our wonderful families together. |
Q: How many times do I have to participate in the classroom?
A: For FULL participation: that would be 4x a year! *In the 2's classes parents do not come into the class until end of November for a smoother transition. The lead class mom will put together a schedule for those parents who will come into the class for their "special day". *In the 4/5s class parents are not mandated to come in at all. Q: What is no participation? A: You pay a fee to not come into the school at all for participation. See your registration packet upon registering for this information. Q: What do I do in the classroom? A: Mostly, play with your child, meet their friends and see our fabulous teachers in action! You also get to attend field trips (ages 3 and up), understand why your child is telling you facts about Penguins and hibernation and wipe some messy hands and probably the table they were just at! Q: Why does the school have participation? A: So parents/caregivers can be involved with their children at school and really see what is going on in a classroom. In addition, it ensures our child to adult Nursery ratios remain at or less than 6:1 in our classes! And there is the "because they grow up so quickly" (insert tissue here). Q: If I work, can my sitter/Grandparent/spouse go in for me? A: Of course! All our participants are finger printed and have a Cari form that is filled out prior to the start of school to keep our children safe! We would just need these forms filled out. These are state requirements. You will have time the first few weeks of school to make an appointment and get your clearance through the school. |
